The Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society performed and represented Greece at the Opening Ceremonies of the 1994 World Cup of Soccer.  The festivities took place at Soldier Field in downtown Chicago.  Twenty four ethnic folk groups represented the number of countries that participated in the final phase of this popular sport event.  Some of these groups came from as far as California or even from their native country.  Apart from a folk dance demonstration, each group participated during the whole length of the ceremonies that included an array of performances by renowned entertainment stars. Among them were Diana Ross, Jon Secada, Richard Marx, Daryl Hall, Oprah Winfrey and many more.  Present were also the President of the United States Bill Clinton, Germany’s Chancellor Helmut Kohl, the President of Bolivia and a score of other dignitaries.  Apart from the 65,000 fans in attendance, an estimated TV audience of over 1 billion watched the opening ceremonies throughout the world.  Preceding the official opening ceremonies, Orpheus attended a rigorous rehearsal schedule that included 10 eight-hour practice sessions.  The opening ceremonies were produced by Opryland Productions, the same company which produced the opening ceremonies at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
